Fu Ziying:Situation and Development of FDI

Very Glad to attend the international seminar on "FDI and Economic Development: East Asia's Experiences and Lessons" jointly sponsored by World Bank and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The seminar discussed and communicated on issues of FDI and economic development. And take this chance to introduce the situation of China's economy and use of foreign investment.

In 2004, world economy expedited its step of recovery and international trade and investment reacted. China's economy kept the momentum of fast increase in 2003 and developed rapidly. In the first 3 quarters in 2004, the year-on-year growth of GDP was 9.5%. In the first 10 months, total imports and exports amounted to US$926.5 billion, up by 35.8%. Of which exports were US$468.7 billion and imports US$5457.8 billion, up by 34.5% and 37.2% respectively. The contractual use of FDI reached US$119 billion, up by 34.2% and actual use of FDI were US$53.8 billion, up by 23.5%.
